Seen at Departure Bay, Nanaimo; Jan 10 2022.
There were no other mallards or widgeons in the bay at time, just some buffleheads. There are none reported on ebird in Nanaimo. Is this because they are rare or because people don't generally report hybrids?

I tried submitting it to ebird but I could not find this hybrid on the checklist, although there were two entries for Eurasian/American Widgeon hybrid.

After looking on iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/intersex-ducks), I think this is likely an intersex Mallard.

I agree this bird looks like an intersex mallard. I have seen one before at Swan Lake here in Victoria. Definitely a challenge trying to determine what kind of duck/duck mix it is so not easy to identify.

Cheers,
