Female Common Mergansers at Hecate Park, Cowichan Bay. The males and females seem to be separate.

Common Raven. We came upon about 30 ravens performing their courtship flights by the road at Jack Point near Nanaimo. One of the most amazing bird related sights I have seen.

Red-Necked Grebes at Deep Bay.
The first grebe regurgitates a fish that seemed to be stuck, then re-swallows it.

Ring-Necked Ducks at Butterbubs Marsh.
The light was right to see the fabled ring on the neck. They don't do a little jump and half summersault like some ducks. I think this is the reason they spread the tail, which should then turn them to point downwards, as they swim.

Thanks Kevin. I got a new camera, which I am slowly getting used to.
I have noticed that several videos from jasonbirdman have not been registered in the spreadsheet. I could fill these in if you want.

Greater Yellowlegs at Nanaimo River Estuary. One of my favourite birds. This is the first time I have heard one calling.

White-throated Sparrow


Four white-throated sparrow have over-wintered at Beckwith park and a couple of them are new singing their breeding song. Lovely sparrow to observe.

Here are some Cedar Waxwings at Buttertubs. The hawthorn berries seem to never run out.
