Identification help - finch-like but a bit larger

This bird landed briefly (north side Christmas Hill) so I only got these two rather poor pictures but I have no idea what it was. It has not returned. Any ideas, please? It was probably about the size of a spotted towhee. Thanks, Susan Harper, Victoria

What you have is a Black-headed Grosbeak female!

Thank you. I see the bill is a bit crossed. I guess it is either a female or immature. Regards, Susan Harper, Victoria.

If it was a Black-headed Grosbeak juvenile, it would have fine streaks on it's breast!
