Stilt Sandpipers...Chaplin Lake, Sask

I thought these guys were Dowitchers but on closer inspection could they be Stilt Sandpipers? Approx 100 of them

OK, I could be wrong but how else do you learn to identify birds, especially shorebirds?
My guess is that the ones in the background are Stilts but aren’t the ones in the foreground Wilson’s Phalaropes (males)?
There are way more experienced birders than I out there so please correct me if I’m wrong.

We are discussing the Sandpipers in back not the Red-necked Phalaropes in front!
