I was around Aspen Grove today and across the road I spotted this in a tree, and thought first it was a downy, but looking at it on the computer, I realize I have not seen these colours. Possibly a three toed? I searched images and see more yellow on those....so gave up looking and will ask!!! Not the best photo forgive....

Looks like a young Red-naped Sapsucker. It could be a young Red-breasted Sapsucker, but you say it was in Aspen Grove (you mean South of Merritt?), so probably a Red-naped.

Yes it was between Merritt and Princeton. OK I checked some images of those, and it looks right...thanks! Darn I thought I had something rare!!! Ha

I agree with Isaac, this is a Red-naped sapsucker and nothing to scoff at Doug it's a great bird!
