Well, we went up to the Logan lake and Lac Le Jeune area of the interior this past weekend and saw a lot of rain, so much that our plans for boating after loons on Sunday morning followed by a session with a local guide in the afternoon were both a wash, luckily i was able to get most of my shooting done on saturday.
Lac le Jeune Lodge has a famous stump perch out front that attracts a lot of birds, (peanut butter helps as well), apologies for the same perch in every shot

I can't say enough nice things about the D500 camera :)

When the guide fell through for sunday afternoon (i didn't know he had tried to call me to say 'some other time' since it was pouring rain and was fully prepared for the wet weather wearing chest waders and waiting patiently at the front door of the lodge until around 4:30, when i finally figured out that he wasn't coming) we decided suddenly after dinner at 7pm that we should just drive home now instead of spending the night, we were going to check out early the next morning anyways, so that's what we did, driving through the rain until we were back in our own bed in north van just after 10pm :)

Hi Paul,

sorry to hear that the guide fell through but seriously who needs a boat to shoot loons when you get shots like that?!!! 8)

Fantastic shots and looks like despite the rainy weather you still made the most of it and got stellar shots.

cheers and thanks for sharing and keep rocking the new gear!

All nice shots Paul. If there is one annual trip i am missing the most while i'm away from home it would be the interior of B.C. Thats good to know about the lodge log.lol. I know some years they have good numbers of Evening Grosbeak at that lodge. I've never been so lucky as to see one there. Also i am glad to hear you have nothing but praise for the D500.
Cheers

Excellent shots Paul, the loon is lovely but it is the Yellow Headed Blackbird that really caught my eye he is gorgeous. It struck me that we really do have an amazing variety of different colours of birds right here in BC! Oh, I do feel so bad for you, waiting eagerly at the door with your hip waders. You made the right choice heading home early, we were out of town too coming back Monday afternoon, the traffic slowed down to a crawl at Hope.

We first came across the lodge in 2010 by accident, i saw a guy photographing birds by the front door and stopped the car! We ended up staying a night and i got to shoot evening grosbeaks, a very exciting moment. This time we were a bit early, they haven't come back quite yet.

What's your secret to getting the birds to pose for you like they do?

i only post the best of my shots, believe me, there are 1000's of shots where the bird is looking elsewhere or a branch is in the way or the comp is off a bit or it's a bit blurry or i just got a bit of it's tail etc.
