These rather common birds are back this fall, seen here off the White Rock Pier: always a joy to watch as they surface from their repetitive dives to show off their colourful faces!

I love surf scoters. We had a huge flock of them with common goldeneyes--and one pair of hooded mergansers--near English Bay's Second Beach earlier this week.
