The REDW continued on March 1st. The bird was present in the same lane in the holly bush opposite to condo #2. The homeowners said that the bird is most active at their place in the morning so that would be the best time for people to show up. They are super friendly which is nice to hear how gracious they are with all the visitors by their home.

Cheers,

Can someone tell me if the Redwing is still being seen, please. Two of us from Montana are planning to come up if it is still in the area. Thanks very much, Rose Leach, Missoula

Hi Rose,

The Redwing is still being seen as of yesterday (March 15). There are two sources you can check for updates, one of which is the BC Rare Bird Alert blog on the Vancouver Island page:

http://bcbirdalert.blogspot.ca/

The other is eBird - I am often updating the Vancouver Island page on the blog from sightings submitted there. You can find recent sightings of the Redwing by going to "Explore Data" and "Alerts". From there you can either search for "British Columbia" and see the province-wide rarities or "Capital" to see Victoria area rarities.

I don't anticipate the Redwing going anywhere until around mid-April, so hopefully it cooperates for you!

Happy travels,
