Saw this very small lone gull moving along the shoreline of Pat Bay in North Saanich. Gulls are another bird that I have trouble differentiating. However this was unique to me for its size probably less than 20". Likely a 1-2 year, but what? Thanks for your help, Susan.

Because it's on southern Vancouver Island, the chances are it's a Mew Gull right from the get-go if you have a petite Larus gull. It's interesting how common Ring-billed Gulls are on the Lower Mainland compared to here. They are considered uncommon in the Victoria checklist area for most of the year.

Aside from that, this bird is just too petite to be a Ring-billed.
