Hi Bert, it is a first winter male. Note the white patches coming in on his face which a female would lack.

I'm impressed by you BG. Almost every day some people ask you for ID help and some don't even say thanks. But you never get frustrated you offer book field guide suggestions for repeat askers. You do a lot of good and tireless and sometimes thankless work for the BC birding community and forum we all appreciate it. I like this forum because on Vanbcbirds I noticed people get criticized if they are beginners asking for id help but you are always so nice to everyone. Thanks for sharing your sweeping bird knowledge.
