Got this guy today at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
The lack of streaking on the belly make me think Purple, but the colouring
on the face looks like House Finch.
Help, please.

Hi Gary you are correct this is a Purple Finch. Your bird has white undertail coverts and a House Finch would have streaked ones.
